Bishop Allen - Suddenly

song-lyrics-and-meanings:

Full song lyrics: Bishop Allen - Suddenly

When the pin drops suddenly
All the shapes and shadows flee
And the world in front of me comes tumbling down
Like a king on a matchstick throne
Who gave away everything he owned
And he’s finally forced upon his … crown
And I wander and drift and the scenery shifts
Minutes quickly turn into days…

The Pissed Officers were the punk band that Justin Rice and Christian Rudder had in college, before they had Bishop Allen.  I knew them a little bit because I worked tech for a couple years at the campus radio station where they hosted a rock show, and because I was in CS classes with Christian, and also because Blake — the third member of the band — was an engineer and a pretty cool guy.
The first time I saw them play was at some awful “Battle of the Bands” competition following a collegiate football game.  This was the fall of 1996 (or maybe 1997?), so it was basically the age of Blues Traveller.  I sat through 4 or 5 terrible college jam bands, and then these guys started handing out lyric sheets to the crowd.  ”We play really fucking fast,” they said.  They also had a cardboard clock that they used to identify which song in the set they were actually playing, as they asserted it would be difficult to tell otherwise.  The banged out 13 songs (including “Ewok Massacre”, feat. the immortal opening line: “Stormtroopers: shoot to kill!”) in roughly eight minutes.  It was probably the greatest musical experience of my life.
For $2, they were selling a 78 with one side of their songs and one side by another local outfit called Gerty Farish.  It came with this patch.  I bought it immediately.

That is an amazing story, asdfghjkl. Yes, thank you for sharing, brilliant.

Bishop Allen - Charm School

It’s supposed to be raining today, but instead it’s bright bright bright sunny and 70. It’s a Bishop-Allen-on-the-iPod kind of driving day. Time to joyride!
